Tuesday Thoughts

Thoughts of an Optimistic Writer

When polled, 80% of Americans say, “I have a book in me.” Count me in.

This blog is titled Tuesday Thoughts, written to give you a taste of my writing style. I will not spout vitriol or political bias, as there’s plenty of that available on other sites. I’ll keep the entries at about 1,200 words or less, as I want to be respectful of your time.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments and, if you like the blog, please recommend it to your friends. The most recent post immediately follows this Welcome.

Remember—when we stop reading, we stop learning.

Thanks for visiting!

Wishing you all the best,

Tim

Tuesday Thoughts: When the Mystical Becomes Magical

“There is a child in everyone of us who is still a trick-or-treater looking for a brightly-lit front porch.”

–Robert Brault

Since today’s Halloween, I couldn’t resist writing a post on this most hallowed of secular celebrations.

If “Scrooge” is the term for someone who doesn’t like Christmas, and that person’s response is, “Bah, Humbug,” what are the words for someone who doesn’t like Halloween? “Screech” and “Boo, Humbug?”

If so, full disclosure–I’m a Screech. After thirty-five years of handling post-Halloween tummy aches and […]

Tuesday Thoughts: When Evil Moves Into the Neighborhood

“In this life, we have to make many choices. Some are very important and some are not. Many of our choices are between good and evil. The choices we make, however, determine to a large extent our happiness or our unhappiness, because we have to live with the consequences of our choices.”

–James E. Faust

If you’ve doubted what all the fuss is about securing our nation’s borders, just ask Israel. It’s reported that Hamas cut through the security fences at the […]

Tuesday Thoughts: “Let It Be Me” 2.0

“Better not to plant seeds of selfishness than try to eradicate them once they have grown into giant weeds.”

–Prem Prakash

If you’re carefully listening, watching, and reading about our country these days, you’d think “America” might start:

My country ’tis of Me;

Give Me My liberty;

Of Me I sing.

Seriously, we have become a more selfish society. Self-centered. Egocentric. Self-righteous. Have you noticed? What I want is what’s most important. Don’t tell me what you want, please.

Maybe it started with Thomas Harris’s […]

Tuesday Thoughts: What’s That Definition Again?

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

–Albert Einstein

I thought I was finished opining on Covid or, more accurately, our national response to it. Not because I thought it would disappear–it never will (think influenza virus)–but because we’ve learned so much and we would modulate our response to any future threat … and yet, here we are.

The latest iteration of the virus has imposed itself on us, and some of the folks […]
