Tuesday Thoughts

Thoughts of an Optimistic Writer

When polled, 80% of Americans say, “I have a book in me.” Count me in.

This blog is titled Tuesday Thoughts, written to give you a taste of my writing style. I will not spout vitriol or political bias, as there’s plenty of that available on other sites. I’ll keep the entries at about 1,200 words or less, as I want to be respectful of your time.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments and, if you like the blog, please recommend it to your friends. The most recent post immediately follows this Welcome.

Remember—when we stop reading, we stop learning.

Thanks for visiting!

Wishing you all the best,

Tim

Tuesday Thoughts: Whose Right to Choose?

American Convention on Human Rights (1969)

Some topics are worth re-visiting, so I’m writing again today about the right to life debate–something I covered April 6 of this year.

The topic of abortion never goes […]

Tuesday Thoughts: What’s the True Cost of Nation-building?

“A Democratic foreign policy would empower experts to plan post-conflict reconstruction ahead of time; not on the fly; it would build a standing roster of international police to handle security after we topple a tyrant; it would create a system to rapidly stand up indigenous security forces.”

–Senator Joe Biden (Wall Street Journal, September 9, 2004)

I confess: Over the last two decades, I stopped following events in Afghanistan. Perhaps you did […]

Tuesday Thoughts: What Does the World Need Now?

“What the world needs now, is love, sweet love. It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of…”

–“What the World Needs Now is Love” (Jackie DeShannon, 1965)

It would be hard to argue against the fact that our world today needs a little more love. Right? The hatred, bias, and vitriol combine to poison our interpersonal relationships.

Everything coming out […]

Tuesday Thoughts: Where Have All the Heroes Gone?

“…Never give in. Never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense.” (emphasis mine)

–Winston Churchill

First, the bad news. World figures like Churchill, Gandhi, Roosevelt, King, Reagan, and Thatcher–heroes of the past–are now few and far between.

Today, our earliest national heroes–from the founding of our nation through the Civil War–are vilified and shamed for […]
